Restaurant Roundup: Gelato at Piccione, New Cafe at Colleen's Cookies

The latest from University City's dining establishments.

There's been lots going on in the University City restaurant scene lately. Here are five updates about local eateries.

1. Piccione Pastry Has Gelato

Piccione Pastry has added four flavors of handcrafted gelato and strawberry sorbet to its menu. The gelato flavors include chocolate, salted caramel, vanilla bean and coffee. Gusto Gourmet Creamery, co-owned by Francesco Velocci and Kaetlyn Macauley, handcrafts the gelato and sorbet.

“An Italian pastry shop isn’t complete without authentic Italian gelato and sorbet,” said Richard Nix, Jr., President of Butler’s Pantry, in a release. “Our Pastry Chef, Martin Lopez, has been working with Francesco and Kaetlyn of Gusto Gourmet Creamery to develop just the right flavors for our Piccione customers. And, summer is the perfect time to launch these refreshing treats.”
