Queen of Sheba in U City Holds Grand Re-Opening Thursday

The Ethiopian restaurant re-opens under new management.

After its owner fell ill last year, the  restaurant in University City temporarily closed its doors. Now under new management the Ethiopian restaurant located at 6665 Olive Boulevard will hold its grand re-opening Thursday evening.

The part kicks off this evening at 7pm, and runs through 1:30am. There is a $10 cover for the buffet which will include: lamb, chicken, beef, lentils, injera, vegetables, and much more. There will also be a live jazz band playing throughout the night.

Last year when the owner of Queen of Sheba fell ill he was unable to maintain day to day business; as a result of his health condition, he was forced to close for a short period of time.

When his business began declining, and the future of Queen of Sheba was unclear, Abraham Habt Michael, the original owner’s brother, stepped in to assume all responsibilities for his brother’s restaurant.

“My brother was very sick, and was not recovering fast, so I just stepped in to help,” Michael stated.

Eventually, Michael bought the restaurant from his brother. He has a new vision for the restaurant, which he hopes will bring back its loyal patrons.

“We wanted to change everything around to create a more beautiful atmosphere, where people could relax and enjoy delicious East African food and listen to great music," said Aster Zera Zion, one of the main chefs at Queen of Sheba.

“The vibe is very comfortable; usually the lights are dim and there is reggae playing in the background. It's a great place to come have a drink after work or to throw a birthday party," said Junea Washington, who has worked as a bartender at the restaurant. "I believe it to be one of the best chill spots in U City,” she added.

Ron Colbert, a longtime family friend of the owner believes that, “the new direction of Queen of Sheba is going to be great; with two world renowned chefs cooking up great food, providing a space for networking and great energy, this is going to be the place to be.”

Queen of Sheba is located at 6665 Olive Blvd, on the corner of Olive and Kingsland.
