Loop Business Owners Talk New Stores, Chuck Berry Statue and Loop Trolley

Four new stores are slated to open in The Loop.

Three businesses recently signed leases to open up stores in The Loop, said Joe Edwards, owner of  and a board member of the Loop Special Business District.

At the group's meeting on Tuesday morning, Edwards said two of the new businesses will be lifestyle and clothing boutiques. The third business will be a photo shop and gallery, which will feature green-screen technology. 

  • Fashion House will be located at 6635 Delmar Blvd., the former space of the clothing store. Two of the owners of Fashion House are graduates of University City High School.
  • Star Image Studios will be at 6178 Delmar Blvd. It will be a photo gallery, studio and store. "It'll be a fun, different thing for The Loop. I'm pretty excited about that," Edwards said.
  • RSRVD will be located at 6148 Delmar Blvd., in the former location of Knitty Couture. It's described as a lifestyle boutique store. It will sell shirts and T-shirts among other types of clothing.

A fourth business is slated to open this Friday at 6378 Delmar Blvd., next to . It's called the SWEDLIFE. It will sell men's streetwear and skateboarding clothes.

A business called , located at 567A Melville Ave., is slated to open on Friday, July 29. The bakery will make cookies and other baked goods to order and for delivery.

Edwards also announced that at 10 a.m. Wednesday banner poles will be installed in The Loop. The bases are already in. Each pole will have a star atop of it.

The poles will be used to display banners across Delmar, announcing happenings such as the Ice Carnival or the upcoming chalk competition.

Edwards also talked up the dedication of the at 10 a.m. July 29.

"It's going to be a pretty neat morning," said Edwards. "It's going to be pretty exciting musically. There are some good surprises," he added. Chuck Berry and his family will be in attendance.

"Progress is happenings," Edwards said about The Loop trolley. "Lots has been going on behind the scenes." 

A man named Tim Borchers has been chosen to head up the project, overseeing the trolley's construction and operations. The native Australian most recently worked on a trolley system in Tampa, FL. He'll be moving to St. Louis to take over the project.

"He is the best person we could have gotten in the country," said Edwards. "We feel real fortunate. He is starting right now...this summer."
