Delmar Loop to Host GO! St. Louis Cheer Section

Area residents, businesses encouraged to come out today and cheer on the runners.

The businesses and residents of University City are invited to come out this morning to cheer on the Go! St. Louis Marathon runners. 

The Loop Special Business District will be at the Chuck Berry Statue in the Delmar Loop to cheer on marathon runners.

The  Drum Line will there to encourage the runners and to help them get past the grueling 20 mile mark of the 26.2 mile race.

The event begins at 7:45 a.m., but cheerers are welcome until the race ends around noon.

The theme for the Loop cheer zone is Carnival so come festive to cheer on the runners. The Loop will provide limited costume materials for cheerers, so come early to guarantee some garb.

Organizers ask that cheerers bring Kazoos, noise-makers, silly wigs, hats and goofy, bright clothes.

The University Heights Subdivision also is sponsoring a Go St. Louis Marathon Cheering Zone on Sunday morning from 7:30 -11:30 a.m. The theme is the new U City theme, "Neighborhood to the World."

The cheering section will have international music, attire and breakfast food. They will be stationed at the top of Yale near the Big Bend/Delmar intersection.

Road Closures

The race courses will result in several road and lane closures throughout the St. Louis area this weekend.

The following streets will be closed as they are part of or surrounding the race course (Approximate times of closures in parentheses):

  • Chestnut, from Tucker to 15th Street 
  • Pine, from Tucker to 14th Street (midnight-5 p.m.) 
  • 13th from Market to Pine (midnight-5 p.m.) 
  • 14th Street from Market to Chestnut (4:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.) 
  • Market from Tucker to 18th Street (4:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.) 
  • Market from Tucker to Broadway (6:30-8:45 a.m.) 
  • Broadway from Market to Chouteau (6:30-8:45 a.m.) 
  • Tucker from Olive to Chouteau (6:30 am-8 a.m.) 
  • Olive from Tucker to Lindell (6:30 am-9:45 a.m.) 
  • Lindell from Olive to Vandeventer (7-9:15 a.m.) 
  • Chouteau from Tucker to Broadway (6:30-8:45 a.m.) 
  • Broadway/7th Street from Chouteau to Arsenal (6:30-8:40 a.m.) 
  • Lynch Street from 7th to 13th (6:30-8:40 a.m.) 
  • 12th Street from Lynch to Victor (6:30-8:40 a.m.) 
  • Victor from 12th to 7th St (6:30-8:40 a.m.) 
  • Market from 18th Street to Compton (7:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.) 
  • Forest Park Avenue/Parkway from Compton to Union (7:15 a.m.-1 p.m.) 
  • Vandeventer Ave from Forest Park Ave to Lindell (7:15 a.m.-1 p.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Union Drive from Lindell to Grand Road (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Grand from Jefferson Drive to Wells Drive (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Wells from Macklind Dr to McKinley Dr (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, McKinley from Wells to Union (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Union from McKinley to Theatre (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Theatre from Union to Cricket Drive (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Cricket from Theatre to Grand (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • In Forest Park, Grand/Lagoon from Cricket to Skinker (7:15-10:45 a.m.) 
  • Union from Delmar to Lindell, no southbound traffic (8:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.) 
  • Delmar from Skinker to Union Blvd., no eastbound traffic (8:25 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.) 
  • Kingshighway will remain open throughout the race and will serve a major thoroughfare allowing north/south traffic. 
  • Grand Blvd will be closed at Lindell Blvd from 7:30-9:30 a.m. 
  • I-44, I-64/40, Manchester Rd, and I-70 will remain open as east-west thoroughfares. 
  • Streets on the course in University City and Clayton will be open with limited access. On these streets, runners will have the right of way.
