CNN Travel Names Subterranean Among Nation's Best Independent Book Stores

The Delmar shop represented Missouri on the list.

CNN Travel recently released a list of the nation's best indie book stores, and the only Missouri shop named is right here on the Delmar Loop. The list honors 'brick and mortar' spaces that are surviving the age of digital reading, selected by a writer with three book tours under her belt.

"When Subterranean opened in 2000, it carried a mix of new and secondhand books; since then, it's shifted its focus to carrying only new books. But they don't try to stock everything. Instead, they've carved out a niche with cult-classic novels, intriguing offerings from small presses, and books about film, pop culture and history," Hilary Davidson writes.

Can you believe the store once considered closing?
