Blast Fitness in University City Closes

The former Bally's Fitness closed over the weekend. Blast had acquired the gym in April 2012.

Blast Fitness on Forsyth, formerly known as Bally's Total Fitness, closed over the weekend. 

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Massachusetts-based Blast Fitness Group LLC closed the gym this weekend. A second location in Maryland Heights remains open. 

A manager at the Maryland Heights location, who declined to give her name, said Blast memberships from the University City location will be honored at the Maryland Heights gym at 12703 Dorsett Road.

Blast acquired the gym from Bally's Total Fitness in April. 

The Forsyth building that formerly housed the Blast gym in University City is being donated to Washington University, which holds the land lease for the property, according to the Post.

There are no immediate plans for the property. Wash U owns several properties in the area.
