First-Grade Girl Bullied Over Star Wars Thermos

Why should a child be afraid to go to school because of what's in her lunchbox?

Written by Assistant Editorial Director Dennis Robaugh:

A Chicago mom's daughter was bullied over, of all things, a Star Wars thermos she took to school for lunch. She was called names and taunted because her classmates thought the movie-themed drink container was just for boys.

Her mom, Carrie Goldman, posted the bullying story on her blog and the showing of support from around the world was overwhelming. The sad experience prompted Goldman to write a book, "Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher and Kid Needs to Know About the Cycle of Fear." The book is a National Parenting Publications Awards 2013 Gold Medal Winner, and you can find the book on Amazon.com.
