Teen Artists Sought for Community Arts Lab in the Loop

The new project will provide a space for teenage artists to create.

University City teenagers are spearheading a research project that will create a teen arts lab in the Delmar Loop.

The Community Studio Inspiring Research, Knowledge and Leadership Teen ARTS Lab. Part of the task force was seeking to find safe places for teenagers to hang out in University City. 

Once that task force completed its findings, some of its teenage members wanted to take another step and find a space for creative teenagers to express themselves through art.

Deborah Horsfall-Morley is one of the volunteers helping the young people. She said the current group of 5-6 teenager leaders is looking to add a few more people to their ranks. 

The group is looking for additional juniors and seniors in high school to intern this summer. The positions would include being an ambassador for the group while working on project-focused art.

Requirements include:

  • Living close to Delmar Loop area 
  • Passionate about St. Louis and Delmar Loop neighborhood in particular
  • Problem solver
  • Want to design community solutions using arts and technology (spoken word, music, photography, theatre, dance, visual arts or multi-media)
  • Desire to present a youth voice about what is going on in your community

The group is also looking for a space for the teenagers to work out of during the summer months of June and July. The interns would make a commitment to work Tuesday-Friday in the lab during June and July.

The interns would represent the group in public settings as well as create community art that could be shown throughout the area.
