Rosanne Cash Brings Book Tour to Blueberry Hill

Singer-songwriter and now New York Times bestselling author Rosanne Cash made at stop at Blueberry Hill in University City on her book tour.

Rosanne Cash brought her book tour to Tuesday night.

She's on the road promoting her best-selling memoir Composed. The book signing and Q&A session in the historic Duck Room was presented by Left Bank Books and hosted by Charles Brennan of KMOX.

During the Q&A, Cash recounted her upbringing, helping raise her siblings, dealing with her father's drug addiction and her parent's divorce. "Writing this book helped a lot of lingering dread and lingering confusion go away," said Cash.

After graduating high school, Cash, then 18, hit the road with her father Johnny, where she learned how to play guitar. She said her dad gave her a list of 100 songs she must know. She recorded 12 of those songs for her 2009 album "The List" which featured collaborations with Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and Jeff Tweedy.

Cash recorded her first album in Munich, Germany in her early twenties. She hoped to release it only in Europe to avoid any comparisons to her dad and to step out of the shadow cast by the Cash name in the music business.

One of the final questions of the evening delved into the 2005 movie Walk The Line which detailed her father’s life dealing with success and addiction. Cash said, “I enjoyed it about as much as anyone would enjoy a Hollywood version of the most painful aspects of their childhood.”

After the Q&A, Cash met with fans and signed copies of her book, Composed, which was recently released in paperback.
