Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Honors Chuck Berry Today

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is honoring Chuck Berry during the 17th annual American Music Masters series.

Roll Over Beethoven: The Life and Music of Chuck Berry, a weeklong celebration, will tell the story of one of the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. 

“I’m happy to be honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum,” said Berry. “I’m looking forward to reelin’ and rockin’ in Cleveland.”

Berry is scheduled to attend the tribute concert on Saturday, Oct. 27 to accept the award and perform. He turned 86 last week.

“Chuck Berry created the language of rock and roll,” said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. “We stand on his foundation, and we are thrilled to honor him and welcome him to Cleveland.” 

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, scheduled performers for today's concert include Dave Alvin, Ernie Isley and Darryl DMC McDaniels, Joe Bonamassa, Rick Derringer, Rosie Flores, John Fullbright, David Johansen, Ronnie Hawkins, JD McPherson, Lemmy Kilmister, Merle Haggard, Chuck Prophet, Vernon Reid, Duke Robillard, Ray Sharpe, Earl Slick and M. Ward.

Berry performs monthly at Blueberry Hill in the Delmar Loop. A statue of Berry was installed in the Loop in 2011.
