Poets Howard Schwartz and Jeff Friedman to Read at UCPL

HOWARD SCHWARTZ AND JEFF FRIEDMAN TO READ AT THE UNIVERSITY CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY

On Friday, March 30, at 7 PM, the University City Public Library and Subterranean Books welcome award winning poets Howard Schwartz and Jeff Friedman, as they read from their latest works in the Library auditorium (6701 Delmar Blvd.). Poet, folklorist and retired UMSL Professor of English, Howard Schwartz will be reading from his upcoming book of poems, The Library of Dreams. He is the author of many works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry including, Breathing in the Dark, Vessels, and Sleepwalking Beneath the Stars. He has edited a wide array of books, including First Harvest: Jewish Writing in St. Louis: 1991-1996, and the award-winning Tree of Souls: The Mythology of Judaism.

Jeff Freidman, the 2003 Distinguished Poet-In-Residence in the M.F.A. program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, will be reading from his fifth book of poems, Working with Flour. He is the author of Black Threads, Taking Down the Angel, and Scattering the Ashes, and teaches at Keene State College. Copies of both poets’ books will be available for purchase and signing after the reading.  Refreshments will be served.
