Chuck Berry Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

The 2nd Annual Blues Awards, which will celebrate St. Louis Blues artists, were held Sunday evening in the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill.

Saint Louis Bluesweek closed out its 2011 festivities by honoring Chuck Berry with the St. Louis Blues Society Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other lifetime achievement award winners at the ceremony included blues greats Arthur Mitchell, Walter Davis, Tommy Bankhead and Bernie Hayes who received the Blues Advocate of the Year Award.

After Joe Edwards gave a glowing introduction, the musician who turns 85 next month, took the Duck Room stage to graciously accept his award.

Berry told the crowd he felt he was unworthy of such an award, to which the audience responded with, “No, you do!”

During the awards show, Bluesweek co-founder Mike Kociela highlighted the plans for the future home of the National Blues Museum, which will be located at 601 Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis.

The evening was capped off by a performance by 2010 Blues Award Lifetime Achievement Award winner Silvercloud
