U City Residents Roll Up Sleeves and Donate Blood

An American Red Cross official said nearly 20 people donated blood during Wednesday's blood drive at the U City Library.

Nearly 20 people braved the heat Wednesday to roll up their sleeves and donate blood for the annual American Red Cross blood drive at the .

"It was hot but I still wanted to come," said Lynden Peoples, a 17 years-old senior at University City High School. State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal of U City also stopped by the library to donate blood.

“It’s the easiest thing in the world to do and it will help save someone’s life," said Chappelle-Nadal.

Blood donation usually takes about 10 minutes.

The Red Cross says a blood donation is needed about every two seconds in the United States, and that demand constantly outpaces supply.
