Three University City Youngsters Vie for World Record Holder Status

Swimmers at Clayton's Shaw Park took part in record-breaking event Tuesday.

Nine-year-old Druva Riswadkep, his 7-year-old brother Rohan and 10-year-old Ezra Dryer of University City kicked off a great summer with a record-breaking event Tuesday in neighboring Clayton.

The trio from Flynn Park Elementary joined other youngsters at as they tried to set a new Guinness World Record for The World's Largest Swim Lesson.

Shaw Park served as one of the official host locations for the St. Louis effort. The old record was 5,000 swimmers at pools spread across several continents. Event organizers were hoping 25,000 youngsters would gather this time, easily shattering the record. As of 7:30pm event officials posted a message on Facebook saying they were still calculating official numbers.

Other record holder wanna-bes included 3-year-old Benjamin Durrant of the City of St. Louis, Reuben Rosas, 6, of Clayton and 6-year-old Ava Hagen and her 4-year-old sister Addie  from Richmond Heights.

Rainy skies and cooler temperatures kept attendance down. Thirty youngsters were registered, and about a dozen braved the elements to be part of the group.

A number of youngsters enrolled in the Shaw Park summer water polo camp stuck around and had fun, joining in with the group.
