Ten Things to do This Weekend

Here are some suggestions of things to do in or near University City this weekend.

STYLE IN THE LOOP
It's hard to describe exactly - all you need to know is that the Loop is the place to be Friday evening. Dozens of businesses have joined forces to show you a great time, while you show off your fashion sense. There will be DJs, street fashion shows, food, and drinks. Local fashion designer and Project Runway alum Michael Drummond will hold a trunk show at . Plus, lots of businesses are having special deals. Click here to see a list of events.

FRIDAY NIGHT FREE-FOR-ALL AT CRAFT ALLIANCE
Try your hand at many creative activities designed for kids ages 5 and up. Make a mask; form hot glass beads with a torch; throw clay on a pottery wheel. All the fun takes place in the studios and galleries of Craft Alliance in the Delmar Loop.  FREE and open the public.

STYLE IN THE LOOP AFTER PARTY @ FITZ'S
Fitz's is hosting a Style in the Loop after party. There will be a Best Street Style Contest sponsored by Shoeternity.com by Baker. Th 1st Place prize pack is for $100. Music by 18andCounting.

COCA THEATRE COMPANY PERFORMS STILL LIFE WITH IRIS
COCA’s student theatre company presents Steven Dietz’sStill Life With Iris, directed by Josh Routh. The play is a fantastical adventure that centers on a little girl's search for a home. Tickets Cost: $6-$8. For more information call (314) 725-6555.

PARTY IN THE PATCH (NO RELATION)
Take a hayride along the torch lit trail, jump in the bounce house, play carnival games and listen to stories by a campfire. For kids 12 & under. The event is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation departments of Clayton, Maplewood and Richmond Heights. Day of Event fee is $10. Hot dog dinner is included with child's registration. Additional dinner meal is available for purchase for $5.00.

U CITY IN BLOOM BULB SALE IN THE LOOP
U City in Bloom holds its annual Fall Bulb Sale Saturday in the Loop. UCB volunteers will have a tent on the side walk located on the west side of People can browse for free. It will cost you to buy bulbs.

ROBOTICS SCRAMBLE AT UCHS
University City High School is hosting a robotics scramble for FIRST Lego League robotics this Saturday at the high school. A scramble gives teams an early opportunity to test their robots and see how they might fair during actual competition.

HOME MOVIE DAY AT WASH U
Washington University Film & Media Archive hosts the annual Home Movie Day - an international event that invites the public to share their Regular 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, VHS and DVD home movies. In addition to screening home movies, the event provides an opportunity to learn how to care for home movies. FREE.

  • 7425 Forsyth Ave. The Film & Media Archive is located at Wash U's West Campus Conference Center (the "basement" of the old Famous Barr building in Clayton). Parking is free.

SUTTER-MEYER OPEN HOUSE
The Sutter-Meyer Farmhouse will host its first free open house on Sunday. The farmhouse, which is thought to have been built in 1873, is believed to be the oldest building in University City. At the open house, board members will greet the public and conduct tours of the first exhibit, "On The Farm: A Glimpse of St. Louis's Rural Past." The event is FREE and OPEN to the public. The house is located at 6826 Chamberlain Court (1 block north of 6800 Olive) off of Ferguson.

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT AT COCA
Take in a free concert by the University City Symphony Orchestra at COCA (Center of Creative Arts). Maestro Leon Burke has named it "Russian Soul," for Rachmaninov - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Kalinnikov's Symphony Number 1 in G minor.  Wen Shen will be on the piano for the Rhapsody, which has many themes that instantly are familiar.  A reception and refreshments will follow the concert. The concert is FREE and open to all.
