  • Central Area — Week of April 1

If you miss your collection, leaves and other yard waste can be placed in biodegradable bags and tagged with Yard Waste Stickers, which are available ($1.50 each) at University City City Hall, Schnucks, Walgreens, University Gardens and Centennial Commons.

Yard waste bags (with stickers) are collected on your regular trash and recycling collection day.

Leaf Collection Guidelines

To ensure prompt service, leaves must be raked to the curb line the day before collection begins in your area. Yard waste bags are not required if you choose to rake the leaves to the curb line for collection by University City during scheduled leaf collection periods.

Please do not mix other yard waste (gumballs, trash, small tree branches/limbs, brush and grass clippings) in with leaves. Yard waste should be placed in the biodegradable bags to be picked up by the city on your regular trash and recycling collection day.

U City’s Composting Facility

Tons of leaves, brush, limbs and grass clippings are collected throughout the year. Public Works recycles the yard waste and leaves into mulch/compost for area yards and gardens. Residents can pick up mulch or request a delivery.

The city processes yard waste and leaves at the Composting Facility located in the Ruth Park Nature Center.

University City residents may pick up compost/mulch free of charge, east of the basketball courts in Heman Park. Pick-up is available Monday through Friday during daylight business hours.

If residents pick up and load the mulch themselves, it's free. Or it can be delivered anywhere in the metro area at the rates below:

  • Loading Fee — $8 per cubic yard
  • Residents — $35, plus the loading fee
  • Non-residents — $55, plus the loading fee (outside city limits and within Interstate 270 boundaries) or $100, plus the loading fee (outside city limits and beyond Interstate 270 boundaries)

Contact Public Works at 314-505-8573 or 314-505-8560, to schedule a delivery.
