Patch Picks: Events, Happenings April 9-15

Here's what's happening in and near Ladue, Clayton and University City this week.

University City Patch teams up with neighboring Patch sites each week to round up events and happenings in the area. Here are our picks for this week.

Monday, April 9

  • Since many area students have the day off on Monday, why not head to University City to while you’ve still got a chance to see the A Means to Meaning: The Triptych: Artists and Poets Offer Us Energy, Courage, Faith & Fun exhibit at the .   • The is hosting a U City Photo Show in the Gallery on Monday. Visitors can enjoy the best photos of the city. Winning photos are slated to be used in the city’s 2014 calendar. Visit the library’s website for more information.
  • The University City City Council will meet on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. For details, visit the city’s website.
  • The in Ladue is hosting the St. Louis Genealogical Society’s Italian Special Interest Group on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend will be treated to a tour of the Special Collections Department and its genealogical resources. Visit the library’s website for more information.   • At the St. Louis County Library Headquarters in Ladue, the genealogical research lessons continue with a research course called Getting the Most out of the Special Collections Department. Wednesday, April 11

  • Looking for ways to provide more constructive and effective feedback at work? Consider joining for its bizTHINK event, where you’ll learn how a simple, three-step technique that’s usually used in the theater can be repurposed for your place of business.   • The University City Library Board will meet on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in the library board room. For more information, visit the city’s website. Also on Wednesday: the U. City Economic Development Retail Sales Tax board meets at 6:30 and the Traffic Commission meeting has been cancelled.
  • The in Ladue is hosting Amy Hunter, Director of Racial Justice for YWCA Metro St. Louis on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Hunter will lead an open dialogue about racial equality in the educational system. Participants will learn about strategies and resources that can help schools achieve racial quality. Refreshments will be served. Visit the library’s website for details.

  • Designed Eileen Fisher’s spring collection will be showcased at Saks Fifth Avenue at Plaza Frontenac on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the upper level.   • In University City, the Green Practices Commission will meet at 6:30 at City Hall, as will the Land Clearance Redevelopment Authority.

Friday, April 13 — Friday the 13th

  • Need a little Shakespeare in your life? If so, you’re in luck. The in Clayton is presenting Mustard Seed Theatre’s performance of The Winter’s Tale beginning Friday. The show starts at 8 p.m. and can be seen each weekend day through April 29. Saturday and Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. and tickets are $20 to $25.   • Speaking of drama, if you or someone you love is interested in acting and singing, you might be interested in knowing that COCA in University City is holding open auditions for its summer musical. Auditions will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Fans of Reese Witherspoon and cheerleading will be thrilled to know that this year’s musical is Legally Blonde.   • Area teens who are interested in writing have a special opportunity on Saturday, thanks to young adult author Angela Sage Larsen and the St. Louis County Library Headquarters. Sunday, April 15—Federal Income Taxes Due Monday, Apr. 16

  • The will be running through University City’s Delmar Loop on Sunday. Even if you’re not participating in the race, you need to be aware that there will be road closures on Big Bend Boulevard between Delmar and Forsyth, on Skinker betweek Delmar and Clayton, and on Hanley between Delmar and Forsyth.
