Cub Scout Troop Pounces on University City Fire Department to Earn Tiger Cub Badge

U. City Cub Scouts get up close and personal with firefighters.

Cub Scout Pack 113 Den Leader Mark Barnes submitted the following story detailing the scout's visit to the University City Fire and Rescue Stationhouse #2, on February 10.

Pack 113 leaped at the invitation of Battalion Chief Brian Moore to visit the firehouse, located at the corner of North & South and Shaftesbury. The scouts toured the stationhouse to see up-close how firefighters work, eat, train, stay fit and sleep.  They received a tour of the station's fire truck and ambulance and the major pieces of equipment that the firefighters and paramedics use to fight fires and save lives. They also received a safety lecture from Battalion Chief Moore.  He described the seriousness of 911, the need to have a fire escape plan and to rehearse that plan.  He then outlined the steps that families should take in the case of a fire in the home.  One scout parent was given a replacement smoke detector for her home.

This visit was part of the scout's requirement to fulfill their Tiger Cub
Badge.  Tiger Cubs is an introduction to the scouting program for first
grade boys (or 7 years old). This program is an initial exposure to the
world of scouting to inquisitive minds along with the guidance of adults.
The Tiger Cub badge is presented to boys who have completed all 15 parts of
the five separate achievements - five Family activities, five Den
activities, and five "Go See It" outings.

The Pack is an organized collection of dens and each den corresponds to a
grade level from first grade to fifth grade.  Pack 113, is sponsored by the
Jackson Park Elementary School PTO and consists of scouts who attend several
public and parochial schools in University City.
