Anheuser-Busch Partners with Habitat for Humanity

A-B Employees to work on homes under construction in University City and Carondelet on Saturday.

On Saturday, July 14, more than 160 Anheuser-Busch employees and family members will roll up their sleeves for an exclusive “Builder Day” where for one day, they will take over Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis builds in and Carondelet. As part of its first-ever builds in these neighborhoods, Habitat Saint Louis is constructing five homes in each community.

Each of these homes is being constructed to meet LEED platinum standards.

The Anheuser-Busch Foundation, a 2012 Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis Build Sponsor, has donated $67,000 to help fund the builds. This is the third year Anheuser-Busch has participated in a Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis build and the company has contributed $175,000 to the organization since 2010.

Volunteering time to build affordable homes provides the company’s employees a unique opportunity to make a sustainable contribution not only to a deserving family, but an entire community. Nationwide, Anheuser-Busch is involved in Habitat projects in 12 cities located near its U.S. breweries, with several hundred employees participating.

“We’re proud to partner with Habitat to help our neighbors in need,” said Margarita Flores, vice president of community affairs for Anheuser-Busch.  “Our employees look forward to these builds and it’s a real source of pride for them and us as a company. By building homes, we help provide families more than a house. We help provide a foundation for them to thrive.”

Habitat for Humanity is a proven community leader in affordable housing. Habitat is a homeownership program that builds and sells its homes to low-income, diverse partner families. These families partner by contributing 350 hours of sweat-equity to build their homes and the homes of others, and then pay a zero-percent interest mortgage. The mortgage proceeds go back into building additional homes for other hard-working families.

“It’s inspiring to have a company like Anheuser-Busch not only provide a contribution through their Foundation, but actually come out to help build houses,” said Kimberly McKinney, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis. “Habitat would not exist without its volunteers and the support of our local corporate community.”
