For centuries, abstinence and fasting have been voluntarily utilized as a testament to conviction and as preparation for actions of great importance.  Abstinence, as a form of self-denial proclaims to all who are aware the seriousness of the task at hand and help to provide resolve to carry it out.

And that is exactly what the St. Louis Black Pages Business Directory and Transformational Agenda Magazine is asking the African American community to do.  “It is time we called a time out, rethink everything and A.C.T (analyze, comprehend, and transform)!” said Howard Denson, Publisher, St. Louis Black Pages/Transformational Agenda Magazine.

He continued, “Heaven knows that it is time that the African American community carefully examined the impact of slavery on today’s behaviors, took out a clean sheet of paper and decided what we wish to become, and then minister to one another via voluntary service to make that empowering and healing vision a reality.”

“We have dedicated the free 100,000 full color copies of the 2014 Edition of the “St. Louis Black Pages”, and its flip publication “The Transformational Agenda Magazine” to the theme WE CAN HEAL OUR COMMUNITY.  SO BE A HERO.

“Hero, as defined by Werner Erhard:  ‘Heroes are ordinary men and women who dare to see and meet the call of a possibility bigger than themselves.  Breakthroughs are created by such heroes, by men and women who will stand for the result when it is only a possibility—people who will act to make possibility real.’”

The Transformational Agenda has dedicated its self “To be the “catalyst for the healing of the African American community.  Abstinence week is about so much more than not having sexual relations.  We are suggesting that people do specific things during Abstinence Week.  The first is to set specific written goals and objectives for the next year; to then connect with an accountability partner who they will communicate with daily for the encouragement and accountability of each in meeting those goals; to make specific Time Tithing commitments for the year (Time Tithing is simply on-going voluntary service directed as impacting the issue most important to that individual); and finally to attend and encourage others to attend The Transformational Agenda Retreat.

A week after the end of Abstinence Week, Black Pages and The Transformational Agenda will host the 2014 Empowerment Conference Saturday March 1st, at Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory High School, at 701 N. Spring Ave. St. Louis, MO 63108 from 9am-6pm, immediately following Black History Month. They are urging every St. Louis citizen to “be there because you care” about the welfare of the African American community.
