In a video released on Washington University's YouTube Channel, Chelsea Clinton discusses the upcoming 2013 Clinton Global Initiative University. The event will be held April 5-7. Washington University students participated in a butter sculpting competition during Engineering Week 2013. The video was posted on Wash U's YouTube channel.
University City native Nelly took the stage with country star Taylor Swift March 19 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The duo performed Nelly's latest hit "Hey Porsche." A video of the performance was posted on YouTube. 
Washington University Engineering students created this parody to Carly Rae Jepsen's popular song "Call Me Maybe" and placed second in the National Academy of Engineering Global Grand Challenges Video Competition. Arunita Kar, a sophomore Langsdorf and McKelvey Scholar, spearheaded this effort. The video is on Wash U Engineering's YouTube page.
The Washington University MySci Resource Center opened this week with fanfare and confetti. The new facility in University City will help science educators improve learning throughout the St. Louis area. Wash U posted a video to its YouTube account of Chancellor Mark Wrighton showing off several science experiments. Matisyahu performed an acoustic set at the Delmar Loop's own Vintage Vinyl on Aug. 16.  The artist will be back in town Wednesday, Nov. 14, for a show at The Pageant. For the past five years, Andrew Tessier, the face behind The Barrelrollman Organization, has been rolling around the world creating awareness and raising funds for children in need through a fun somersault.On Saturday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at Art Hill in Forest Park in St. Louis, Mo., he and others will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the most people to simultaneously somersault at the same time. Only one roll per participant will be required to set the world record, which calls for 836 rolls to be eligible and break the 835 person record set in Switzerland in 2011.Raising over $2…
A new music reality show premieres tonight—and this one features University City's own Nelly. The Next premieres at 8 p.m. tonight on KPLR Channel 11.  The series stars include Nelly, Joe Jonas, Gloria Estefan and country star John Rich. In each episode the stars will drop in on the lives of four up-and-coming local musicians. The show will jump to a new city for each episode—going to Orlando, Baltimore, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles. Mike Peters, the 1981 Pulitzer Prize winner for editorial cartooning and creator of the award-winning cartoon strip Mother Goose & Grimm, gave the 2012 Commencement address at Washington University. Peters, who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Washington University in 1965, addressed approximately 2,800 members of the Class of 2012 and their friends and family members. One of the riders in the Missouri Professional Cycling Loop de Loop race May 11 ran the entire race with a GoPro HD Hero2 helmet cam on his helmet. The race took place in The Delmar Loop and was the kickoff for a weekend of riding in University City, Tower Grove and Dutchtown. Free Comic Book Day is always a cause for celebration at Star Clipper in University City. So much so, the store filmed this year's festivities. Free Comic Book Day is an annual showcase of the comics industry. Each May, publishers, suppliers and distributors produce free comics for local retailers to pass on to customers. Washington University in St. Louis' softball team celebrated Senior Day by partnering with Siteman Cancer Center and holding a bake sale and silent auction. All proceeds were donated to help find cures for cancer. Cancer survivor Gayle Cook, mother of senior pitcher, Olivia Cook, threw out the first pitch in the Bears' second game of their doubleheader versus Monmouth College. The Softball Bears swept the Scots 5-2 and 1-0.
