Star Clipper in University City, kicked off the event a day early with a book signing and special showing of the film Tank Girl at the Tivoli Theatre. The Tesla Service Center in University City is one step closer to reality. On Monday, the University City City Council approved a conditional use permit (CUP) for the business to operate at 8664 Olive Blvd. The permit was approved 6-0. Councilman Terry Crow was not in attendance at Monday's meeting. As reported in January, Tesla is putting service centers in 20 cities across the United States. Tesla explained why they are putting service centers in places like St. Louis in its blog: We believe service is a top priority for every customer. Villages of Wyncrest, an 840 unit apartment complex in University City, has been sold, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. The complex spans both sides of I-170. It sold for $36.9 million, the Business Journal reports. Wyncrest St. Louis LP of Nashville, Tenn., is the new owner, according to documents filed with the St. Louis County Recorder of Deeds. The Nashville group acquired Wyncrest from Canadian firm Bentall-Kennedy, one of North America’s largest real estate investment advisers, which had owned the property for nearly 12 years. Blast Fitness on Forsyth, formerly known as Bally's Total Fitness, closed over the weekend. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Massachusetts-based Blast Fitness Group LLC closed the gym this weekend. A second location in Maryland Heights remains open. A manager at the Maryland Heights location, who declined to give her name, said Blast memberships from the University City location will be honored at the Maryland Heights gym at 12703 Dorsett Road. Pasta House Co. closed Saturday in Clayton after just three weeks in business, St. Louis Magazine's Relish blog reported. Quoting from the Relish post: This morning, Kim Tucci tells us—as only he could—'Forget about it. We're done. I could tell right away. Decent business at lunch and nothing at dinner. Vintage shop Re-Designz settled into the Loop earlier this spring to become another spot for shoppers on the hunt for all-things retro. In addition to an assortment of tables, chairs and other pieces from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Re-Designz will also help shoppers customize their personal look with contemporary bracelets, necklaces and earrings, according to the store's website. Along with the usual assortment of Chinese, Japanese and American buffet favorites, Tokyo Seafood Buffet, which opened May 20, also features sushi plates that can be snagged from a rotating conveyor belt system. The idea may be new for the St. Louis area, but the Riverfront Times reports that the invention dates back to 1958 when it was created by a Japanese restauranteur. Tokyo Seafood Buffet is located at 8008 Olive Blvd. and is open Monday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
A standard in the Delmar Loop, Fitz's Bottling Company has been making soda since 1947.
