We live in a high crime part of U.City. The problem I hear about is that we don't have enoughRead Morepolice & fire-fighters. I understand their numbers have gone down since Ms. Welsch has been Mayor.

There seems to be a difference of opinion on the number of police officers and the number ofRead Morefirefig hters that University City had when Mayor Welsh became mayor and what we have now. I am going to do my best to get information that will show the actual numbers. Victims of crime don't want to hear excuses, proposed steps to address the escalation in crime would be more helpful. The troubled economy over the past few years usually results in more crime. There are some crimes that cannot be reduced by shear numbers of police officers alone. I wonder if the number of arrests in the higher crime areas have also risen. Arrests alone certainly do not make a victim feel a lot better. I hope that the situation improves in your ward as well as the whole of University City, we are all University City residents an each an everyone of us deserves the best that can be achieved. If I find the information concerning the number of officers and firefighters before Mayor Welsh and the present staffing I will share that.

Information for 3rd Ward Rogue and all other interested citizens. The City of University City has Read Morebudgeted for 67 Police Officers for the Budget year of 2014 under Mayor Welsh and City Manager Lehman Walker. There were the same amount of Captains, Lt.'s, and Sgt.'s budget for as was budgeted for under Mayor Adams and City Manager Feier. The Budget for 2010, under Mayor Adams and City Manager Feirer budgeted for 59 Police Officers. Mayor Welsh and City Manager Walker have increased the number of Police Officers by 8 from what was budgeted for in 2010 under Mayor Adams and City Manager Feier. Some of the additional positions may not have been filled yet as the search is being made for qualified personnel. The Budget information, to include all of the budget, can be found on line. This reflects a number of years going back from 2014. If there is some question as to the accuracy of the numbers that I have posted it can be viewed on line as I suggested.
