U City Man Charged With Cutting Off Pit Bull's Ears

Police said the man had scissors and blood on hands when officers arrived.

Police said a man cut off portions of a pit bull’s ears Wednesday at his home.

Mark Shepperd, 41, of the 7400 block of Wayne Avenue, was charged with animal abuse, torture or mutilation as a persistent offender.

said that when officers arrived at his home, Shepperd was holding scissors and a hose, and he had blood on his hands and shoes.

The chocolate and white, 6-month-old pit bull’s legs and mouth were taped up, and its ears were bleeding, police reported.

Shepperd is being held in St. Louis County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
