U City Man Charged With Cutting Off Pit Bull's Ears
Police said the man had scissors and blood on hands when officers arrived.
Police said a University City man cut off portions of a pit bull’s ears Wednesday at his home.
Mark Shepperd, 41, of the 7400 block of Wayne Avenue, was charged with animal abuse, torture or mutilation as a persistent offender.
University City Police said that when officers arrived at his home, Shepperd was holding scissors and a hose, and he had blood on his hands and shoes.
The chocolate and white, 6-month-old pit bull’s legs and mouth were taped up, and its ears were bleeding, police reported.
Shepperd is being held in St. Louis County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

@ sheltoes fatlaces, i understand what you are saying but there places where you can take your dog to have the procedure done. it is not okay to tape a dog's mouth shut and cut off his ears! that IS torture! that just like me saying my daughter has a cavity but since i have all the tools at home i'll pull it myself wtf! really??

I agree with @believeinyourself2012, I have a pitbull. What is the purpose of clipping the ears? How is taking scissors and cutting off the tips of the ears taking care of your pet. Am I not caring for mine because Im not in my yard chopping off her ears? Really, are you listening or reading the words you are writing? How we treat and raise our pitbulls attribute to the public perception of these beautiful animals. Maybe if we were responsible owners and not trying to make them look menacing they wouldn't have the misperception of being cruel and vicious animals. Give me a break or better yet give this dog a break.
