U City Approved for Three Transportation Projects
The projects are through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments transportation committee.
The City of University City has been approved for three transportation projects through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments’ Transportation Committee for the Fiscal Year 2012-2016 Transportation Improvement Program.
Projects approved by the committee within University City will involve Westgate Avenue; Canton Avenue, Old Bonhomme Road, Jackson Avenue and the Chamberlain Avenue Bridge.
A new traffic signal will be installed at Westgate Ave. (at Olive) to allow the street to be converted back to two way traffic and provide the fire station on Westgate with easier access to Olive.
Canton, Old Bonhomme and Jackson will be restriped to create bike lanes; these streets also will include new bike signs, and the sidewalks adjacent to the streets will be widened for ADA accessibility.
The Chamberlain Avenue Bridge (over the River Des Peres Northeast Branch) will be completely replaced and also will include new sidewalks.
Public open house events will be held for all proposed projects. The open house events are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 12 at the Regional Arts Commission, or from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 20 at the Maryland Heights Government Center.
Everyone is invited to attend.
