St. Louis Lawmakers, Health Officials Respond to Obamacare Decision
Officials are making public statements about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on the healthcare law.

With the United States Supreme Court decision to uphold the key portion of President Barack Obama’s healthcare law, several area legislators and hospital officials have come forward to speak their minds.
Steve Lipstein, president and CEO of BJC Healthcare, which Christian Hospital falls under, released a statement Thursday morning:
“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling helps to ensure that more people in our country will receive health insurance to assist with their medical needs. BJC HealthCare will continue our focus on making medicine better for the patients and families we serve. As BJC employees, we work every day to improve quality and safety and have long advocated for affordable health care that expands access to needed medical services. We continue to believe that all people living in the United States need the financial protection and security that comes with having health insurance.”
“Today’s decision underscores the dire importance of pending lawsuits such as my own, the November election and the need for the full repeal of this monstrous tax on Americans," he said. "President Obama and all members of Congress that voted for federal healthcare law have now imposed the largest tax increase on the American people in our history."
While Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis, who faces a challenge from fellow Democrat Rep. Russ Carnahan in the 1st Congressional District, praised victory in the article.
"This is not a political triumph, but a victory for the American people," he said. "Insurance premiums will not increase, and health care costs for all of us will continue to be reined in. Most importantly, tens of millions of Americans will gain health insurance. That is the true victory."
