Rebate Program for Residents in Deer Creek Watershed

The application period open today and runs through March 1.

The City of University City has announced a program allowing landowners to participate in a voluntary rebate program that assists residents living in the Deer Creek Watershed.

The rebate program, called RainScape Rebates, assists landowners in the Deer Creek Watershed wishing to landscape their yards to improve storm water management by helping capture rain where it falls instead of allowing water to run off-site.

Applications for the program are available beginning Jan. 7. An optional training workshop or webinar for residents and a required workshop for contractors will be available in February. The application deadline for the program is March 1, 2013.

Landowners can choose from a variety of RainScaping options including planting a rain garden, installing a rain barrel, amending soil and replacing lawn grass with trees, shrubs and low-maintenance ground cover. RainScaping can be used to solve a drainage problem, increase aesthetic appeal, improve property values and more.

Seventy-five percent of the funds will be reserved for residential landowners. The remaining 25 percent will be available for schools, churches, businesses and parks.

The maximum rebate per site is 75 percent of documented expenses up to $2,000. Applications and more information can be found on the Deer Creek Watershed Alliance’s website, as well as University City City Hall, 3rd Floor and the University City Library.
