U City Man Flees in Stolen Car and Crashes, Police Say
Police said the car had been stolen in a burglary a few hours before an officer recognized the stolen vehicle.
A University City man faces criminal charges for stealing a car in Overland.
Marquis Baker, 17, of the 8000 block of Appleton Drive in University City, was charged Wednesday with tampering with a motor vehicle.
Overland Police said an officer spotted Baker driving a stolen 2002 Ford Focus at 4:30 a.m. July 17 near St. Charles Rock Road and Interstate 170. When Baker saw the officer, he made a U-turn and drove off, fleeing the officer until he crashed the car, according to the police report.
The car had been stolen in a burglary a few hours previously, police said.
Bond was set at $20,000.
