Overnight Police Chase Ends in University City

The chase began in Maryland Heights.

 

A police chase that began in Maryland Heights ended in University City early this morning. 

According to Fox2Now, the incident began with a traffic stop in Maryland Heights. The pursuit ended near Olive and Bartmer in University City a little after midnight.    

Authorities tell Fox2 it started after a Maryland Heights police officer pulled over a car with one person in it for a traffic violation in the parking lot at the apartments at Bennington and Summerhouse.

As the officer was approaching the car, the suspect drove off. Maryland Heights Police say the suspect made a u-turn, rammed the officer's car with the officer in it then sped off.

The officer was able to chase the car. Several police agencies were involved in the chase and KSDK is reporting that a A K-9 unit was called in to attempt to locate a gun. 

The pursuit ended in U City when the suspect crashed into some parked cars at an auto repair shop. He was caught a short time later hiding in the backyard of a home.

Police have not released a motive for the suspect's actions.
