'Oh My God, Everybody's Windows Are Busted'

A severe storm damaged dozens of cars in the Loop on Saturday afternoon.

Editor's Note: Earlier stories had reports of hail. This came from University City Patch editor Myra Lopez as dictated to Patch colleague Nate Birt from the scene at Fitz's. Lopez was caught outside in the storm and was pelted by what she deduced was hail. However, one person at the scene -- a Fitz's employee - reported seeing the wind blow gravel off the roof of a nearby building.

Sarah Ely was working inside  on Saturday afternoon when she saw people rush to the windows. She said she heard someone say, "Oh my God, everybody's windows are busted."

"It's not drive-able," said Sekoya Walker, of St. Louis, as she stood next to her damaged car. Five windows were shattered in the storm.

"There was a ton of wind...things were flying everywhere," said Jen Rich of Creve Coeur who took refuge from the storm under an awning outside . Afterward she made her way back to her car behind Fitz's to find that she'd lost two windows.
