New Beginnings at University City Children's Center

Photos, food and a violinist marked the first day of school at University City Children's Center.

Families dropping their children off at University City Children's Center Tuesday morning were met by a gaggle of smiling staff, a photographer and a violinist.

Because so many children are in full-time daycare and don't get the opportunity to have a first day of school, and celebrate that milestone like older kids, UCCC chose to mark Tuesday as the first day of school.

"Everyone gets this fresh start," said Kris Schwetye, development associate at UCCC. "We make this day a big deal." She said marking the milestone helps the children transition better.

The kids were met by a photographer who took family portraits, and violinist John McGrosso of the Arianna String Quartet.
