Well, how obvious is it that the Democrats are in charge of the media in this town? So, last week a MO Democrat story goes viral/national and the local news DOES NOT BOTHER TO COVER IT about local St. Louis Democrats wanting to confiscate our guns and THAT is not considered relevant news locally that we should know what our area representatives are doing. But, let a GOP legislature propose a bill and wow - talk about news!!! It is the story of the day today in the Post-Dishonest on the editorial as well political page. Wow, what a difference an R and a D makes in this town. You could only report about the Democrats as a sub-story to this one? Pretty pathetic. I no longer will trust the Patch as a reliable and unbiased news source even though it probably never was.

I have no clue what Carol is running on about. I see this story as perfectly objective. If anything, I would criticize it as giving too much attention to a frivolous publicity stunt. The bigger picture is this: Newtown was finally the public opinion tipping point on gun violence many of us have awaited for decades--indeed our whole lives. I remember JFK, RFK, MLK, Pres. Reagan, John Lennon, Columbine, Va. Tech., Aurora, and innumerable daily killings on our own streets coming and going without action. The gun fanatics who read the polls see the writing on the walls now: public opinion favors major gun law reform on a national scale and it WILL happen. The Obama-Biden proposals are comprehensive, reasonable, and consistent with the 2nd Amendment as interpreted by the Supreme Court in DC v. Heller (summarized here: http://www.commongroundonguns.com/the-meaning-of-the-second-amendment-under-the-supreme-courts-decision-in-d-c-v-heller/). That is why people like Carol and so many others are whining so loudly! They sense that their extremist views on guns are putting them on the losing end of history. Nobody likes being a minority and gun fanatics are learning what that feels like. as the culture shifts under their feet. Most Americans no longer will tolerate living like this is the Wild West.

Both sides seem to want to out silly the other. Lost in this debate is the root of the problem. We, as a society, are failing to instill decency and respect of others. I would like more attention paid to healing an increasingly sick society.
