Free Tuition for PNC Family Arts Saturdays
The family art events are held at the Craft Alliance Kranzberg Arts Center.
Students and parents alike are invited to participate in this exciting, tuition-free introductory art experience that has been enabled by the generosity of the PNC Foundation, who donated $40,000 to CA to increase public arts access and promote community engagement within the arts.
Each of the sessions takes place over the course of four consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., at the CA Kranzberg Arts Center location.
Registration for both fall sessions is now open.
- Session 1 begins on October 6
- Session 2 will start on November 10.
Three more sessions will be offered January – May 2013, giving more than two hundred people in the St. Louis area the opportunity to experience this unique art program.
During PNC Arts Alive Family Saturdays at CA, children and teens (ages 5 to 17), along with parents or guardians, rotate through four specialized studios: clay, metal, fiber and graphics. These studio experiences allow parents and children to collaborate with one another on hands-on projects, developing new technical skills while learning from each other.
All of the studio projects directly correlate to the exhibitions in CA’s Gallery in the Kranzberg Arts Center. Each session begins with a tour, followed by a discussion about the exhibition.
Teachers encourage students to think critically about the work in order to connect to it on a personal level.
Sessions 1, 2 and 3 will draw inspiration from the exhibition CLASP, which is about making connections, and explores the use of varied materials to create works of adornment.
