Cardinals' Manager Announces Retirement

Just days after winning the World Series, Tony La Russa announces he is leaving the Cardinals.

 

As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, Tony La Russa is leaving the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals held a press conference at 9 a.m. this morning to announce Manager Tony La Russa's retirement from the team.

La Russa leaves the team just days after winning the 2011 World Series in seven games over the Texas Rangers. The Cardinals and La Russa also won the 2006 World Series.

2011 was La Russa's 16th year with the Cardinals organization and his 33rd year in Major League Baseball.
