Back to School Rally, National Night Out Is Tonight
The city and the school district are joining forces for tonight's event.
It’s almost time for school bells to ring again, and this year, the School District of University City and the University City Police Department will join forces to host a Back‐to‐School Rally and National Night Out celebration.
The event will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, on the campus of the Ronald E. McNair Administration Building.
University City students, parents and community members are welcome to join this free community‐wide event.
“We’re looking forward to another great Back‐to‐School Rally this year,” said Joylynn Pruitt, superintendent of schools. “There’s always such an air of excitement at the rally, and this year, we are excited to offer even more to participants because of the partnership between the city and district.”
For the fifth year in a row, the School District of University City is sponsoring the Back‐to‐School Rally in an effort to raise excitement about the importance of education and boost student attendance on the first day of school, which is Wednesday, Aug. 22.
The rally incorporates free hair cuts, backpacks filled with school supplies, enrollment information, fun/educational activities and information about community organizations.
The annual National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, promote neighborhood spirit and fortify community partnerships.
The night out offers police and fire department displays, singers, dancers, a disc jockey, face painting, a petting zoo, free food and drinks, and information about family safety.
