Yoga Six Opens - Southern California Yoga Culture Emerges in St. Louis
Southern California sun shines in St. Louis! Yoga Six, a new upscale studio offering heated and non-heated classes for yoga students of all levels, opens its doors south of Forest Park at 5724 Oakland Ave. Originating from Southern California, the “Y6” staff of 16 sets a new standard for comfort and amenities that enhance the yoga experience. The studio’s 3,400 square feet of tastefully appointed space features two practice rooms, full locker rooms with showers, a comfortable lounge area and small retail boutique.
The studio is focused on creating a positive yoga experience for everyone. “Yoga is a very personal undertaking, and everyone has different reasons for coming to the mat,” says Diane Ackley, St. Louis Studio Manager. “Whether you’re stepping into a class for the first time or have decades of experience, a good studio makes the difference between loving yoga or never practicing again. Our commitment is to provide high quality instruction that is friendly, supportive and respectful.”
This commitment is evident in all facets of Yoga Six, from studio design and yoga program diversity to staff education and training. Yoga Six also makes yoga accessible to all with nearly 50 classes each week, ranging in skill level. Its diverse class offerings include: Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yoga Fundamentals, Athletic Deep Stretch, Y6 Barre, Y6 Sculpt and Restorative Yoga.
The Yoga Six studio, jointly designed by Space Architecture and Design of St. Louis and Solomon Ferguson of San Diego, features an eco-friendly environment with abundant natural light, soothing indirect lighting in practice rooms and a state-of-the-art heat system.
Yoga Six programming originates from Southern California, where it counts two sister studios in San Diego. With hundreds of studios and world renown yoga practitioners like Anusara Yoga founder John Friend, Ashtanga guru Pattabhi Jois and mind-body healing pioneer Deepak Chopra, Southern California is the mecca of U.S. yoga. It is this rich yoga tradition that attracted Australian born Katie Brauer to the area. Brauer, Yoga Six’s Director of Yoga Programming, has devoted the last 12 years of her life to yoga. Outside of Yoga Six, she works with high-profile Olympians, professional athletes and celebrities. Brauer leads yoga workshops, trainings and retreats throughout the United States and abroad.
Yoga Six is the newest endeavor for yoga devotee Bill Koman, President of St. Louis commercial developer The Koman Group and Yoga Six Chairman. He is excited to bring Southern California yoga to St. Louis by creating a top-notch studio that is a first-of-its-kind studio in the area.
Yoga Six is currently offering a “Free 6” Class Card to residents of St. Louis. To learn more, visit www.yogasix.com or call 314-802-7447.
