Family Tradition of Service Continues With Latest Board Appointment

JEWISH FAMILY & CHILDREN’S SERVICE INCOMING BOARD

(ST. LOUIS/June 7, 2012) The Board of Directors of Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) announces David Weiss is the new Board President.

He is joined by incoming vice-presidents Judy Kaplan, financial development; Carla Rosen, strategic planning; Rick Rovac, agency services; and Megan Wilson, human resources. New directors on the board are Kenya Madison, Mor Regev, Bestsy Rubenstein and Michael Silver.

Weiss assumes his responsibilities immediately, taking the reigns from outgoing president Fred Steinbach. He comes from a family of community service advocates in particular serving on boards in the Jewish community. Weiss’ father Sanford Weiss was president of the Board of the St. Louis Jewish Lightand his mother, Ellen C. Weiss was president of the Board of the Jewish Center for the Aged (which has since been sold and renamed). David Weiss’ late uncle Richard Weiss is well remembered as president of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and his aunt Rochelle Weiss was a vice president of National Council of Jewish Women.

A senior vice-president for investment at Stifel Nicolaus Financial, Weiss chose to find his own special niche. Eight years ago, he selected JF&CS as the agency to devote his time, energy and talents. Right away he felt a connection. Weiss has a degree in sociology and a major in psychology, so he finds the JF&CS social service programs to be quite impressive.

When asked about what he sees as the challenges upon taking the reigns of the JF&CS Board, Weiss said, “The need for services has never been higher. There is a great deal to be done navigating such a large organization. However, JF&CS has a great staff and they will be a strong support. I feel fortunate to have been given this opportunity at this time in my life. I will devote my full effort to helping JF&CS serve as many of those who have need as possible.”

Weiss lives with his family in West St. Louis County. He is a graduate of Country Day (MICDS) and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Washington University John M. Olin School of Business, St. Louis.

For generations, JF&CS has offered compassionate support and practical solutions to guide people through life’s ups and downs. Added in 1991 and celebrating its 21st year, the food pantry (now the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry), a major program for JF&CS, was established to serve clients living in surrounding zip codes. Today, 22 JF&CS programs serve clients from more than 110 different zip codes throughout the greater St. Louis area. JF&CS is a proud member of the United Way and
